Leadership Program

The New Earth Leaders program is a personal and organizational development program in which young professionals use the Earth Charter as an ethical framework for solving sustainable business cases and explore the possibilities of young professionals to further sustainable change in their specific business environment.

The program encourages participants to bring in sustainable business cases from their own organization and provides guidance for the possible implementation of solutions.

The program consists of three parts during a 6 months period:

1. Introduction and training period: A two day preparation weekend including an introduction to the Earth Charter by highly recognized business executives and Earth Charter-commissioners. Besides that, intake and preparation for the mutual learning journey (second phase) will take place, conducted by the learning facilitators.

2. Intensive learning period: The second phase is a mutual learning journey to an emerging market. The participants collaborate with local young professionals on a business case, conducted by experienced learning facilitators. The objective is to develop an inclusive solution to the business challenge, learning from and with each other using the Earth Charter as an ethical framework for personal and organizational development. Working on the business case allows action learning to take place on leadership themes, which we will reflect upon on a daily base.

3. Implementation period: Based on lessons learned all participants work on a concrete, existing and relevant sustainability case from their own company. The implementation period will include group and individual reflection on personal and organizational transformation processes, and participants will present the results of the sustainability case at their company.

Participants co-create the program with the New Earth Leaders team and there will be space to invite renowned guest speakers, deepen the focus of learning through additional training and co-create the business challenge.

Alumni-network: Through our special web feature all participants can stay connected to fellow leaders to exchange experiences, best practices and lessons learned. Please check http://newearthleaders.ning.com

Leading and learning

The New Earth Leaders program has a hybrid learning method. It is partly an “open space” learning environment where all participants share, learn and create new knowledge with one another on the personal, organizational and thematic level. Working on the business case allows action learning to take place. Participants co-create the learning process, which is facilitated by learning facilitators who will guide the participants through the process of connecting to issues on a deeper level, connecting to the source. The process “works” when everyone operates as a leader. So when leadership issues arise they will be addressed with the appropriate learning tools by the learning facilitators. The learning facilitators have an appreciative approach, which allows the participants to make optimal use of the diversity in the group. Reflection will take place on a daily base. The Earth Charter is the ethical framework for learning and action.

In optimal form, the working on a sustainability case creates the space to understand the bigger picture (macro level) of the challenge we face during a program, what the company can do with it on an organizational and business level (meso level) and how the participant can lead (micro level) the action to make things happen.
